Maynooth residents and commuters are facing widespread disruption this morning after a water main burst on the Celbridge Road for the third time this year.
The recurring issue has led to significant water outages, forcing local schools and businesses to close and leaving the community in frustration.
Thousands of homes, including areas beyond Maynooth, are currently without water, with Irish Water confirming that repairs won’t be completed until at least 1:30 PM.
The ongoing issue has sparked outrage from residents, with the same pipe bursting on February 10th and June 23rd this year.
Local councillor Angela Feeney expressed her concern over the scale of the disruption. “This is the third time this year that this has happened. The situation is extremely serious, and the locals are understandably frustrated," she said.
The impact has been felt across the town, with schools like Gaelscoil Uí Fhiaich, Educate Together, and the Kidz@Play Playschool and Afterschool forced to close their doors.
Parents have been left scrambling to make alternative arrangements for their children.
Commuters are also bearing the brunt.
Bus routes C4 and W61 have been disrupted, causing long delays for those trying to get to work or college.
Traffic along the Celbridge Road came to a standstill this morning, with many forced to take detours.
Irish Water has yet to provide an explanation as to why the pipe has burst multiple times, but the growing anger in the community is palpable. “People just want answers,” said one frustrated resident who contacted Kfm. “This can’t keep happening every few months."
