The Psychiatric Nurses Association, headquartered in Sallins, is taking the industrial action after a breakdown in talks with the HSE over the recruitment of core nursing roles in the health service.
Up to 6,500 psychiatric nurses will engage in a work to rule from this morning.

It comes ahead of a separate action by other healthcare unions who plan their own work to rule action on Monday.
PNA General Secretary Peter Hughes says they are open to discussions but are prepared to go further to get what they want.
