It has caused problems for local residents in recent years.

Uisce Éireann has said it will replace a problematic water pipe in Leixlip in 2027, with work to begin in Q1.

The pipe has been the source of numerous bursts in Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth in recent years.

Uisce Éireann said it's their intention to "hit the ground in Q1" with regard to the Leixlip pipe.

Speaking to UÉ, Fine Gael and Kildare North TD Joe Neville welcomed the "positive update" from the utility.

"This work will be a major capital project which will be done within the next year.

"I'm glad that it's being listened to and dealt with and that a plan is also in place, because 15,000 people and a lot of businesses are affected by this."

UÉ also announced that a new pipe from the Allen Reservoir has been commissioned, saying it "should reduce outages significantly" on the downstream end into areas like Allenwood and Prosperous.

The utility accepted that the main there "frequently bursts".

"That should reduce outages significantly on the downstream end into Prosperous, Allenwood and those areas, that's live now so you should se an effect to service downstream," an Uisce Éireann spokesperson concluded.
