Gardaí in Leixlip attended the scene of a road traffic collision yesterday.
One of the drivers involved failed a roadside breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
A breath reading later showed a level of 141 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - more than six times over the legal limit.
Gardaí also confirmed that the motorist had no insurance, and the vehicle was seized at the scene.
The driver has since been charged and is due to appear before the courts.
Potential penalties include disqualification from driving for up to six years, a fine of up to €5,000, and a possible prison sentence of up to six months.
