DJ Carey is accused of inducing people to pay him money by fraudulently claiming to have cancer, and that he needed the money to obtain treatment.
The five time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny faces 21 charges in total, which also includes providing a false instrument.
The 52 year old was arrested by appointment this morning, and brought before Judge John O’Leary at Blanchardstown District Court.
He was served with a book of evidence and sent forward for trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
The court heard Mr Carey has no income whatsoever, and he was granted legal aid.
He was remanded on bail to appear in court again next month.
