Founder Of The Chieftans, Paddy Moloney, Has Died.

Culture Minister Catherine Martin says "we have lost a giant of the national cultural landscape."

Paddy Moloney, founder and leader of The Cheiftains has died at the age of 83.

From Donneycarney in Dublin, he formed the group in 1962.

It went on to become one of the most well known traditional Irish music groups in the world, winning six Grammy awards.


Culture Minister Catherine Martin says we have lost a giant of the national cultural landscape.

She says through the Chieftains Paddy Mononey brought the joy of Irish music to a global audience and his music was a source of celebration and pride for all of us.
