Today's announcement will see the construction of 2,700 beds on college campuses across the country in what will be a joint partnership between the European Investment Bank and the Housing Finance Agency.
This new scheme is backed by a 40-year €200 million European Investment Bank loan.
The initiative will provide long-term financing to support both the construction of new energy efficient accommodation and also the renovation of existing buildings.
The European Investment Fund backing is expected to reduce financing costs for universities and enable lower monthly rents for students.
