It followed a serious knife attack in North Belfast.

There was a night of disorder with people forced to flee their homes across Belfast, after protests, turned violent.

Anti-immigration protests were organised last night and trouble followed.

Homes and vehicles were set ablaze, with First Minister Michelle O'Neill describing it as "thuggery".

It followed a serious knife attack in North Belfast, in which a man sustained significant injuries to his face, neck and back.

The man in his 40s is being treated for the injuries.

It happened close to Antrim Road, as a Sudanese national was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 30-year-old is due in court today, charged with attempted murder.
