Meanwhile AIB is projecting inflation could hit 7% this year, if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.
Consumer prices went up by 3.7% in the 12 months to April, the highest inflation since January 2024.
That's up from an annual increase of 3.6% in the 12 months to March.
It was 2.6% excluding energy and food, according to the CSO.
Consumer prices rose by half a percentage point between March and April this year.
