The man is believed to be known to the woman
An Irish man is being questioned after the discovery of an Irish woman's body in Spain.
The body of the 36-year-old woman was found in a corridor at a hotel in Salou, south of Barcelona last night.
Police in Spain have launched an investigation after officers were alerted at around half nine and found a woman lying on the floor of the hotel.
Emergency service personnel failed in their attempts to revive her.
A man was found next to her with a "self-inflicted wound".
The man arrested is being questioned by police in Spain, and is believed to be the woman's partner.
Because the investigation is being led by Spanish authorities, Gardaí say they've no further comment at this time.
The Department of Foreign Affairs meanwhile says it is aware of the incident.
