Several Gardaí pursued the digger where it was eventually stopped and a man was arrested.

A man remains in Garda custody as part of an investigation into the theft and pursuit of a JCB digger in County Carlow.

The vehicle was stolen from the Tullow area yesterday morning.

Several Gardaí pursued the digger where it was eventually stopped in a field and a man was arrested.

During the course of the incident, a "less than lethal device" was discharged by officers, which the Garda watchdog is investigating.
