He sustained apparent pellet wounds in the incident, which took place in the John Carew Park area at around 10.30pm last night.
The man was later taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment, and his injuries are understood to be non-life threatening.
No arrests have been mad and investigations are ongoing.
