October is World Menopause Month and Dr. Sumi Dunne has weighed in with advice for women
Today is World Menopuase Day, and experts are advising that some women may suffer symptoms years in advance of the menopause.
Pharmacists can offer advice and support to women going through menopause in a private room away from the shop floor.
That's the advice from the Irish Pharmacy Union on World Menopause Day, it says difficulty sleeping, irritability and hot flushes are common signs.
A Menopause Summit is taking place at the Johnstown Estate, Co Meath on Saturday 22nd October from 10am - 5pm.
There's also a Women's Menopause Health Day taking place at Sutton Golf Club in Dublin on Friday 21st October from 9.30am - 5.30pm.
Pharmacists throughout the country are offering advice on how to recognise and manage symptoms of Menopause that effects women typically aged between 45 and 55.
Women with peri - menopausal's symptoms may suffer years in advance of the menopause actually beginning.
One tell tale sign of the menopause is an absence of a period for one year or more.
In some women, symptoms can last for 2/3 years, however symptoms can be known to last for up to 12 years, said Dr. Sumi. Dunne.
