Tusla managed more than 69,700 referrals to Child Protection and Welfare Services last year.

The Child and Family Agency publishes its 2020 annual report today.

Caoimhseach Connolly reports:

"Tusla's 2020 annual report shows that the Child and Family agency managed 69,700 referrals to Child Protection and Welfare Services, and more than 22,300 children received a family support service last year.

During the 2019-2020 academic year, Tusla's Education Support Service worked with more than 5,300 children.

In the period when schools were closed between March and June of last year, the agency supported families with food parcels and helped students to access educational materials and technology for remote learning.

The report also shows more than 30 million euro was spent on legal expenses and Guardian Ad Litem costs.

Tusla's Data Protection unit said 362 Personal Data breaches were notified to the Data Protection Commissioner in 2020.

The agency also supported its 5 thousand people who work for Tusla to deliver services remotely during the pandemic, by providing more than 1 thousand additional laptops and almost 2,500 additional mobile devices."
