At around seven o'clock yesterday evening, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision between a pedestrian and a car on Main Street in Abbeyleix, County Laois.

At around seven o'clock yesterday evening, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision between a pedestrian and a car on Main Street in Abbeyleix, County Laois.
The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, where he was later pronounced dead.
No other injuries have been reported.
Around half an hour later, a single vehicle crash occurred on the R187 between Monaghan and Rosslea.
The sole occupant of the car, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan for a post-mortem exam.
The road remains closed this morning.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to both collisions to come forward.
