Irish 2,000 Guineas down for decision at the Curragh

Kildare have named an unchanged team for tomorrow's Leinster Ladies Intermediate Football Final against Wexford at O’Moore Park.

Manager Diane O’Hora has selected the same starting 15 from that which began the comprehensive semi final victory over Louth.

Kildare are looking to make it back to back provincial titles and were 5-08 to 2-09 winners when the sides met in the group stages of this year’s competition.

The game throws in at 2pm in Portlaoise tomorrow.

Kfm will have live commentary of the match in association with Dowling's Bar, Ballyshannon.

Seamus Dillon and Tara Byrne will describe the action.

2 o’clock is the throw in time for today’s Platinum All Ireland Under 14s Girls semi final between Leinster champions Kildare and Mayo in Roscommon.

Carlow and Offaly and will battle it out for the Joe McDonagh Cup final at Croke Park at 4.45.

 

The All Ireland Football Championship group stages continue with Cork playing Mickey Harte's Louth in Navan at 3pm

That's followed by the meeting of Westmeath and Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.

There's an all Ulster affair at Celtic Park as Derry play host to Monaghan at 7pm.

 

RACING

The opening Classic races of the Irish Flat season are the highlights of a spectacular weekend o racing in the Curragh, which starts today.

A dozen colts have stood their ground for the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at 3.40.

‘Royal Scotsman’, ‘Paddington’ and English 2,000 Guineas runner-up ‘Hi Royal’ are vying for the favourites tag.

Kfm will be broadcasting live from the track in association with the Curragh Racecourse.


RUGBY


Munster have the chance to win their first piece of silverware for 12 years this evening.

The Province take on defending champions the Stormers in the final of the United Rugby Championship in Cape Town at 5:30pm.

Athy’s Jeremy Loughman and Eadestown’s Tadhg Beirne start in the pack.

 

SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland Under 17s face a tough task to reach the semi finals of the European Championships this evening.

They take on nine time winners Spain in the last 8 in Budapest.

Kick off is at 7pm.


Luton Town could secure their place in the Premier League for the first time this evening.

The Hatters take on Coventry City in the Championship Playoff final with a place in the top flight up for grabs.

Kick off at Wembley is at 4:45pm.

 

Derry City can extend their lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division with a victory over Sligo Rovers tonight.

Kick off at the Showgrounds is at 7:45pm.

Shamrock Rovers missed the chance to leapfrog the Candystripes as they were beaten 1-0 by Cork City last night.

 

ROWING

Fintan McCarthy is looking to add another European Rowing Championship medal to his growing total this afternoon.

He rows for Ireland alongside Hugh Moore in the final of the lightweight double sculls at 1.13 this afternoon.

The women's four are also looking for a strong finish in Slovenia.

Aifric Keogh, Eimear Lamb, Fiona Murtagh and Tara Hanlon go in the final of their discipline just before11.30 this morning.

That's followed by Aoife Casey and Margaret Cremen who take to the water for their lightweight women's double sculls decider just before 1pm this afternoon.
