Speaking on Kildare Today, Dan Donoher, Manager at Kildare Wildlife Rescue said that there is a minority of people who are causing incidents like this:
"This is not an attack on anglers, there is people who do this right, but unfortunately there is a minority of people who take up angling in fishing parks when they're on holiday, sometimes the lines get left behind and there was a lot of lines left behind for this to happen.
"It's common unfortunately, we see it a lot in the summer time, we just ask people to enjoy their fishing and please bring home their gear afterwards."
Mr Donoher added that they had been called about an incident at Dara park in Newbridge there was an incident of swans being caught up in fishing lines.
Other wildlife like ducks and herons are also vulnerable to elements that may be left on the lines and ingested by them.
