The planned layoffs follow a reduction in the company's workforce last August, when Intel said it planned to cut 15,000 positions.
Intel, which employs 4,900 people at its Leixlip plant, is to unveil plans this week to cut more than 20% of its workforce.
The company said the layoffs are part of a broader strategy to refocus on an engineering-driven culture.
