A man in his 20's has been arrested and is currently detained.
Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following a fatal assault in Youghal, Co. Cork last night.
At approximately 9:50pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to an assault at a commercial premises on North Main Street.
A man, aged in his 30s, was transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, where he was later pronounced deceased.
A man in his 20s has since been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in County Cork.
A number of scenes are being preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
Investigations are ongoing.
