Research by Women for Election shows 71% of female elected representatives have received threats targeting themselves or people close to them, while 63 per cent have experienced sexualised violence.
The research also shows that nearly two thirds of female TDs and Senators have experienced sexual violence, yet only 20% have reported it.
Chair of the Irish Women's Parliamentary Caucus, Senator Alison Comyn says the hate targeting women in these positions is different to that aimed at their male colleagues.
