Investment in the strategy was announced in last week's Budget
Today the National Drugs Strategy for the next five years will be launched.
In the Budget announced last week, investment in the strategy was announced, supporting its implementation and expanding drug and alcohol services.
Budget 2027 pledged €8.5 million to begin implementing the National Drugs Strategy 2026–2030.
This funding also plans to expand existing drugs initiatives with ring-fenced funding for prevention initiatives aimed at children and young people.
€2.4 million will be provided to Drug and Alcohol Task Forces to strengthen responses to emerging drug trends.
It's also been promised to fund gender-specific services for women with complex needs, and support for people affected by drug-related violence and intimidation.
The Minister for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy, Jennifer Murnane O’Connor TD will launch the strategy today, and says investment will help to put it into practice, by strengthening services, prevention and early intervention, while supporting people in recovery.
