Jeffrey Donaldson is to appeal his conviction for rape and 17 other sexual offences.
The former DUP leader was convicted last month of 18 sex offences, relating to the abuse of two women when they were children.
He was later remanded into custody and due for sentencing in September.
Mr Donaldson's solicitor has now confirmed papers have been lodged for an appeal.
