The incident occurred at a carpark in Dundalk around 9.30pm
The Garda armed support unit used one round of what’s being described as ‘less lethal force’ against a man in County Louth last night.
It followed an incident involving a knife.
Gardaí were alerted to an incident involving an armed man at a carpark in Dundalk at approximately 9.30pm.
The man, who had a knife, failed to drop it when gardaí directed him to do so.
Gardaí say they tried to de-escalate the situation but after the man failed to comply, the armed support unit discharged one round from a 40mm less-lethal force option.
According to gardaí, the man was disarmed, and arrested.
He is due to appear before Drogheda District Court this morning, at 10:30am.
