An American man has appeared in court, charged with murdering his father at a five-star hotel in Co Laois.
30-year-old Henry McGowan, of 114 Clinton Street, Brooklyn, New York, appeared before Portlaoise District Court this morning.
He’s accused of killing his father, John McGowan, on Tuesday, at Ballyfin Demesne.
His solicitor told the court it’s accepted the accused has significant mental health issues, and asked for immediate medical assistance in prison, which was granted.
Henry McGowan was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison, in Dublin, to appear in court again next week.
