The average rate for night time energy for some customers is rising to around 10 cent per kilowatt-hour.
It comes as Pinergy has announced an 82% increase of its night rate, affecting around 1,800 hundred people - specifically EV owners and those who use night rate tariffs to charge their solar batteries.
Customers who signed up for the 'Lifestyle Drive Time' plan are currently charged 5.49 cent per kilowatt-hour between 2am and 5am, but from the 1st of August that is going up to 9.99 cent.
It's also reducing the amount it pays out to customers who feed solar energy back to the grid.
Accounting Lecturer at University College Cork, Oliver Brown says Pinergy's increase isn't unreasonable.
Tánaiste and Finance Minister Simon Harris, says it's an extraordinary increase.
He added that Ireland needs to look at long term measures to reduce energy bills.
