Mr Martin will also raise issues including human rights, diplomacy and the legacy of clerical abuse in Ireland.

Later he'll meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, where they'll talk about the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

The Taoiseach says he wants to discuss how to strengthen ties with Italy on trade, tourism and sport.

He will then visit the Pontifical Irish College in Rome, where he’ll announce Government funding to help preserve and digitise its historic archives.
