Up to 1,000 jobs are to be created by US multinational Dexcom in Athenry, Co Galway.

The company manufactures continuous glucose monitoring technologies for the management of diabetes.

Some 500 construction jobs will be created while it's being built.

This is Dexcom's first manufacturing site in Europe and will be built on the town’s IDA landbank.

The new facility represents a €300 million investment over five years.

The plant will have the capacity to produce millions of glucose monitors annually when it is completed.

Dexcom plans to create hundreds of jobs in the coming years for highly skilled graduates and technician level positions.
