The Wicklow-Wexford deputy says the decision is entirely his own
Fianna Fáil TD Malcolm Byrne has stepped down as Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Artificial Intelligence.
The Wicklow-Wexford deputy says the decision is entirely his own and reflects the seriousness of the circumstances surrounding his recent arrest on suspicion of drink driving.
Mr Byrne says he wants to ensure the committee can continue its work without distraction.
He says he will remain a member of the committee while the Garda investigation continues.
The Taoiseach has described drink driving as a very serious issue, and says developments in the case should be allowed to take their course.
