Richie Hogan retires from hurling

The transfer window closes in England at 11pm.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Matheus Nunes from Wolves for 53 million pounds.

One player who has left City is Cole Palmer - who has gone to Chelsea for 42 and a half million pounds.

Callum Hudson Odoi is set to complete a transfer from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest.

And Republic of Ireland underage international Tom Cannon could be in line for a move to Leicester City from Everton.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp says Mo Salah won't be leaving Liverpool despite a reported big money offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.

 

Brighton's first ever season competing in European football will see them go up against some massive clubs on the continent.

They'll face Ajax, Marseille and AEK Athens in the group stages of the Europa League.

Liverpool have been drawn to face Austrian side LASK, Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse.

After winning the Europa Conference League last season, West Ham are back in the second tier of European competition and will meet Olympiacos, Freiburg and TSC Backa Topola.

Rangers are in Group C with Real Betis, Sparta Prague and Aris Limassol.


It's a significant night in the League of Ireland Premier Division title race.

Leaders Shamrock Rovers welcome Bohemians to Tallaght Stadium, with Shelbourne up against second placed side St Pat's - while Dundalk host Derry City.

Elsewhere, Cork City take on Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United face UCD.

In the First Division, leaders Galway United host Athlone Town, Cobh Ramblers play Treaty United, Wexford take on Finn Harps and it's Kerry versus Bray.

All of the matches kick off at 7.45.


In the Premier League this evening, Luton Town are at home to West Ham United.

There's an 8pm start at Kenilworth Road.

Richie Hogan has retired from inter county hurling with Kilkenny.

The Danesfort clubman was one of the most talented forwards during the county's dominance of the game under Brian Cody.

The 35 year old won seven All Ireland titles and was named Hurler of the Year in 2014.


There are 2 games tonight in the UPMC Senior Hurling Championship Group A tonight.

Naas play Eire Og Corra Choill and Coill Dubh face Ardclough.

Both games throw in at 7.30pm.

Last night Confey beat Clane 0-18 to 2-10 and Celbridge defeated Maynooth 1-13 to 0-14.

 

TENNIS

Defending men's singles champion Carlos Alcaraz is into round three of the US Open in New York.

He defeated Lloyd Harris in straight sets.

Daniil Medvedev is also through.


HORSE RACING

Wexford stages seven races from 4.15.
