Mixed results for Kildare GAA and LGFA teams at the weekend

Gaelic Games

On Saturday, the Division 2 footballers lost to Fermanagh. 

Yesterday,  the hurlers lost to Meath, a team they beat last week.

Kildare women footballers remain unbeaten in Division 2 after 3 games, beating Cavan away yesterday and chalking up 17 wins in a row.

First, following the 2-10 to 0-12 defeat by Fermanagh, selector Anthony Rainbow says they're working to score more goals:

The hurlers opened their League campaign in Navan yesterday but lost by 3 points:  Meath 2-20 Kildare 3-14

Ladies Football

The Kildare ladies footballers are showing the way. 

Promoted to Division 2 this year, they’ve won their opening three games against Sligo, Donegal and Cavan.

Yesterday they beat Cavan by 3-12 to 0-3.

Soccer

Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-1 in the top of the table clash in the Premier League.

A mix up in the Liverpool backline allowed Gabriel Martinelli to score the winner in the second half.

It means the Gunners move up to outright second in the table.

Manchester United breezed past West Ham 3-0 to leapfrog them into the Premier League's top six.

Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring before a double from Alejandro Garnacho.

Chelsea fell into the bottom half after a heavy 4-2 defeat at home to Wolves.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest drew 1-all.

There's one game this evening as Manchester City are away to Brentford at 8pm.

Basketball

In the Miss Quote.ie Basketball Women’s Superleague, Leixlip’s FloMax Liffey Celtics, are joint top of the table, following Saturdays win over DCU Mercy.

FloMAX Liffey Celtics took full advantage of leaders Brunell defeat to draw level with their Cork rivals at the top of the table after they ran out comprehensive 97-65 winners at home to DCU Mercy in Leixlip Amenities Sports Centre on Saturday.

Five players hit double figures for Celtics, including Ireland senior internationals, Áine O’Connor Rachel Huijsdens and Sorcha Tiernan who accounted for a combined 45 points and 16 rebounds.

Celtics have a game in hand and play that this afternoon in Leixlip Amenities Centre against 4th place SETU Waterford Wildcats.
