"Rules exist, and they are applied. What you're seeing now is the consequence of those rules," she said.
Sinn Fein Mary Lou McDonald has suggested that Kildare South TD Patricia Ryan resigned from the party because of competition.
"Selection conventions are open conventions, and sometimes they are contested. Rules exist, and they are applied. What you're seeing now is the consequence of those rules," she said.
Meanwhile, grassroots members, including Nick Greaves, who resigned as chairman of the Monasterevin Kildangan cumann, said some Sinn Fein members asked why their questions were being screened at a meeting in the Osprey Hotel in Naas that Deputy McDonald was due to attend.
He said it came across as censorship.
Kfm has reached out to Greaves for further comment.
When asked by Kfm on Friday if her decision to resign was because of competition within the party, Patricia Ryan said: " Anybody that runs in a convention can be contested. So this isn’t an issue. I don’t have any issue with anybody contesting a convention - that’s democracy. I have an issue with other things that have been going on that have not sat comfortably with me for about 18 months."
