The centre secured funding of €6 million euro in September
Tendering for a contractor and construction is set to commence on a new community centre in Kildare town in Q1 of 2028.
The centre, which will be located on the Dunmurray road, secured funding of €6 million in September.
However, Kildare County Council has said that it is yet to receive the Letter of Offer and funding conditions from the funding Department, which may include specific conditions.
The development must go through the next stage prior to tendering and construction, which is detailed design.
KCC said that the planning permission for the site has more than 20 planning conditions (prior to commencement) that require detailed design on transport items, parks and recreation and environment related elements.
It added "significant information remains to be received" from the funding Department with relation to the project.
Departments within the Council are currently engaging to establish their expectations regarding the planning conditions, and a tender will be prepared to progress full detailed design, ensuring compliance with the planning conditions.
The next step will be to prepare a tender pack to then go to tender for construction.
It concluded by stating that the detailed design will progress during 2027, and, "unless construction inflation surges hugely and compromises viability", that tendering for a contractor and construction will commence in Q1 2028.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fianna Fáil Councillor for Kildare/Newbridge MD Suzanne Doyle described the project as "exceptional":
"Not that this is unique, but it is exceptional, this is a project that is grassroots up, I put out my hand to a number of people within the community, who I knew had the capacity [to make this happen].
"They made this happen through getting the planning permission and putting in all the hard slog, because I could clearly see there was funding applications going to central Government, and if they were shovel-ready, they were more likely to be successful in gaining their money," she added.
