Some of the pups that did not survive may have been eaten by rats.

A Kildare animal welfare team responding to a tip-off discovered an abandoned house in Dublin described as “rat-infested” and containing multiple deceased puppies.
Moyvalley based My Lovely Horse Rescue (MLHR) attended the scene at approximately 7am yesterday morning amid harsh weather conditions.
According to MLHR, they were alerted to reports of puppies struggling to survive inside the derelict property.
Upon arrival, they described the conditions as extremely unsanitary, with signs of severe neglect.
During their search, the team discovered four deceased puppies, with indications they may have been attacked by rodents.
Two puppies, estimated to be five to six weeks old, were found alive but in poor health, suffering from fleas and worms.
No mother dog was located at the scene.
These two puppies are the only ones found alive.
MLHR contacted An Garda Síochána, and the surviving puppies were immediately taken to a veterinary clinic for emergency care.
Anyone with information about the abandoned property or the puppies' origins is encouraged to contact MLHR or local authorities.
