it follows a case taken by Tipperary's John O'Meara.
The eligibility for the Widow's and Widower's pension will be extended.
The government granted approval for the move today, following a Supreme Court ruling last year which stated existing social welfare legislation in the area was unconstitutional.

Social Protection Minister Dara Calleary will introduce new draft legislation which will see the Widow's, Widower's and Surviving Civil Partner's Contributory Pension extended to qualifying cohabitants for the first time.
