L and N plate drivers subject to 7 point disqualification limit.
Over 2,000 drivers will receive letters informing them of a change in the penalty points system.
All novice and learner drivers are now subject to a 7 point disqualification limit.
The figure had been 12 points under a system from 2014.
No novice or learner drivers will be immediately disqualified from the roads as a result of the change.
However any penalty points racked up from six weeks after the letter's received, which pushes them over 7, will trigger a ban.
