Fuel oil prices are at their highest recorded value in five years.
The Central Statistics Office says the wholesale cost of all energy fuels rose by over 42% in April, compared to the same month last year.
Wholesale electricity prices rose by 1.9% in the month to April this year, and were 18.0% higher than April 2025.
All energy fuels were up by 32.6% in the month. and the CSO says this is largely driven by increases in fuel oil and gas oil.
Fuel oil prices are at their highest recorded value since the CSO began recording this series in 2021, while gas oil prices are at their highest since July 2022.
As well as this, the cost of producing chemicals and chemical products rose by almost 12% over the 12 months to April.
