90% of new passport applications in 2023 were made online.

The number of new passports issued this year is expected to reach 1 million.

It comes as the Department of Foreign Affairs is encouraging anyone intending to travel abroad in 2024 to ensure their passports are in date.

90% of new passport applications in 2023 were made online.

The Tanaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister is encouraging anyone who is travelling abroad to check their passport is in date.

If it's not or due to expire, Micheal Martin is urging people to use the Passport Online services as part of the Departments new 'Don't Be That Person' information campaign.

After many found it difficult to obtain new passports in 2022, it's claimed the service is NOT operating under any backlogs.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says current turnaround times are estimated to be between 10 days for a simple Adult renewal to 8 weeks for a paper application.
