More than 1,500 motorists have been detected speeding during the first two days of the Garda August Bank Holiday roads policing operation.
Gardaí have released an updated progress report on the August Bank Holiday Roads Policing Operation, revealing that more than 1,590 drivers have been caught speeding since the campaign began on Thursday.
The latest figures also show 39 motorists have been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, while 200 drivers were detected using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
Among the highest speeds recorded were 172 kilometres an hour in a 120 kilometre zone on the M1 in Dublin, 142 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre zone in County Kilkenny, and a 126 kilometres per hour in a 60 kilometre zone in Clonmel.
Gardaí say there have been no road fatalities linked to collisions during the first two days of the operation.
The nationwide enforcement campaign continues until Tuesday, with officers focusing on speeding, intoxicated driving, seatbelt use, and mobile phone offences.
