The UN is calling Ireland a "cautionary" tale for data centres use of energy.

Research has found that data processing accounts for 21% of our electricity, compared to just 4% in the US

The UN predicts in the next few years that figure will grow over 30% due to AI, which would make Ireland the 11th highest energy using country in the world.

It follows recent studies by Friends of the Earth which outline that that they could add over €600 to the average household bill.

Meanwhile, Minister for Enterprise Peter Burke has branded data centres as a strategic opportunity.
