According to Independent.ie, €9.5 million paid to former councillor - including Kildare councillors - and former ministers and 2 former cllrs, now current ministers
"Figures obtained by Independent.ie, and published in today's Sunday Independent, from city and county councils show that among those to receive lump sums are two current ministers — Darragh O’Brien and Malcolm Noonan — a district court judge and 28 politicians who were elected to the Dáil or Seanad.
"Former ministers who received the payments include Simon Coveney, Ciarán Cuffe, Jim Daly, Dara Murphy and Joe Costello."Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien was paid €12,657 by Fingal County Council last August.
Other current TDs and senators to receive the payment include representatives from Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, the Green Party, Sinn Féin, Labour and People Before Profit.
"Former tánaiste Simon Coveney was paid €12,735 in 2022 for time served on Cork County Council.
"Former Fine Gael councillor Mark Stafford resigned from Kildare County Council in July 2023 after being appointed as a county registrar in Louth, a €150,000-a-year role related to the management of circuit court offices in the area.
He was one of three candidates proposed for the role by the Public Appointments Service before being chosen. Mr Stafford earned a €34,887 gratuity for his time as a councillor. (See other Kildare payments below)
