Inflation in Ireland hit 7.8% in May, the biggest annual increase since 1984.
Estimated figures from Eurostat late last month had prices increasing by 8.2 per cent in May.
The rate has now been confirmed by the CSO to be at 7.8%.
In May, the largest increases were seen in housing, energy costs and transport.
Alcohol and tobacco saw rises of 2%, while restaurants and hotels only saw prices increase by just over 1%.
